Effort vs. Results

“Until your ass heats the seat, you won’t be able to skip that grade in the accelerator program.” is what my father used to say when I was trying to pass an accelerator program in high school. If I passed, I could skip a year. At the time, as a teenager, I never cared to fully digest what he said, but as I’ve grown, it has become a cornerstone in how I approach life. Below I explain why this is very impactful and how it can expand your perspective on how you think about effort and results.

In my career, I’ve encountered many professionals—and aspiring ones—who lose sight of the process. They become so fixated on the results they want that they overlook the effort required to achieve them, often leading to frustration when progress doesn’t happen as quickly as they expect. For me, what truly sets professionals apart isn’t just talent—it’s their ability to focus on the process. They have the patience to consistently put in the effort and trust that results will naturally follow. What’s better is when you genuinely enjoy the effort you’re putting in—that’s the key to sustainable, healthy growth. This perspective applies not just to business but to life—our relationships, physical and mental health, hobbies, and ambitions.

Let’s Be Real…

If you’re just going through the motions—dragging yourself to the gym because it’s what you’re “supposed to do” or half-heartedly working on a project—you’re unlikely to see meaningful results. Sure, it’s okay to hit snooze sometimes or skip a day, but if this becomes the norm, don’t be surprised when the outcomes don’t align with your expectations.
